Canarsie Pier is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area of the National Park Service.

Opened in the 1920s the pier was once a popular swimming and fishing spot. Swimming is now prohibited but it still attracts many anglers from nearby and afar.

It was estimated by the National Park Service that 50,000 people visit the pier in a month during late spring and early fall.

The area has just been recently renovated in 2007, providing a better and cleaner enviornment to the community and visiting anglers.

Common catch includes blue fish, flounders, and stripers.
